How to...

How to start an investigation

We believe that many individuals feel anxious and unsure whether to engage the services of a private investigator. We think this uncertainty occurs mainly because people feel our profession is shrouded in mystery.

This need not be the case and we believe in frank and open discussion to help you to decide and initiate an investigation.

Q: "Do I need an investigator?"

A: We will not try to tell you that you should have us investigate something, but we will be happy to discuss with you your situation and give you frank explanations whether we can do anything about it and how we might do it. From this you will be able to make an informed decision.

Q: "What do you need from me for starters?"

A: Email us, call us or use one of our web forms to tell us about your situation. Please be open and tell us as much as you can. We guarantee your privacy. We will consider your situation and tell you whether we can help you and in what way. We will also give you an estimate of the cost involved. No obligations.

Q: "Do I have to pay anything up front?"

A: Yes. After we discuss your case and you ask us to investigate for you, we will ask you for a retainer, or an advance on our cost estimate. The retainer is usually about 50% of our estimate.

We can process payments in our Payments section. We accept credit cards, money orders, cheques or direct funds transfers.

If the investigation becomes more involved than expected and costs might go higher, then we will discuss that with you and proceed further only on your specific instructions. In such a case we will probably ask for an additional retainer to cover our increasing ongoing costs.

Q: "What do I get from you once the job is done?"

A: We will give you a full written formal report, any pictures we have taken and any video we have recorded. Should your case have to go to court, then we are ready to give evidence in court on your behalf. There is an additional fee involved for this.

Q: "Roughly how much do you charge for an investigation?"

A: The cost of an investigation varies greatly and we think it would be dishonest for us to state an amount. The total cost and our hourly fee depends not only on the duration of the investigation, but also on the kind and complexity of it. We are happy to discuss fees openly with you after you tell us your situation that might need to be investigated.
